The Greatest Commandment

St. Matthew Chapter 7

JUDGE not, that ye be not judged.

This is a commandment that Jesus gave us. As commandment keepers, Christians, we keep all God’s commandments, and therefore we do not judge others. In fact, we could say that in the most basic form what Jesus taught us was to love one another, and judge not. In other words, be concerned with your own personal relationship with God, and don’t concern yourself with your neighbor’s personal business. Mind your own business. Because when men judge other men, which they are incapable of doing, because they are not God, the men cause strife and division among the Christian brotherhood. And we all know, Mother hates those who sow discord among the brethren.

When people are preaching the Gospel, the Holy Bible Scriptures, they must be certain to verify their claims with some sort of Scriptural basis. Studying Christianity is not exactly the same as studying science, but we must use some basic scientific principles to realize the True teachings of God in His Scriptures. For example, we cannot say in the scientific world that we believe that the moon is made out of green cheese, and so therefore, the moon IS made out of cheese, and there is no question about it. We must base our teachings and claims on some basis in fact, otherwise, it is just a personal opinion. Trying to put forth personal opinion as fact only causes confusion, and confuses people.

Be not deceived. Be not confused. When we make claims about Christianity, our claims must have some basis in fact and/or Scripture. For example, i can’t just say that i hate riverdancing music, and therefore riverdancing music is Satanic, and all who practice it are Satanists. Because there is no Scriptural basis, nor factual basis to these “claims”. But let me warn you this my brethrens, our worst enemies are not overseas on the other side of the world wearing Arab clothing and white sneaks. No, our worst enemies are right here in our own country and they are wearing three piece suits. A wolf in sheeps clothing is a much more dangerous foe than a regular wolf!

And likewise, the worst sins are committed by Christians who have fallen from grace. For who can be saved by grace, then only to return to sin again? For those to preach keeping God’s commandments, and yet do not keep God’s commandments is the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and the scribes, condemned by Jesus. Therefore, let us not be many masters, for ours is the greater condemnation.

As before, i mentioned about false prophets. And indeed, false prophets are known by their fruit. Their false prophecies never come true. Every month they have to try and invent a new false prophecy, becausee their prophecies never come true. So beware the false prophets, because not only will they have false prophecies, they will also bring false teachings. Their teachings will not have any factual or Scriptural basis. So be not deceived, and don’t be confused by the false teachings. Obey God and His commandments. Love each other, and judge not.

Why do we judge not? Because then we will be judged. Because when we judge, we are not forgiving others, we are judging them. Since we do not forgive, we are not forgiven. So instead of being forgiven by Jesus, we will have to be judged for our works. This is a very important commandment. And also, we are unable to judge others. We cannot put ourselves in God’s Throne, and begin to judge others. How can one mans servant judge another servant? He can’t. For example, i know some people who judge others for the kind of medicine they take, and yet, they themselves are liars. Another person may judge his brother over his music, while he himself is eating meat! No, men are not able to judge one another. All have sinned, no one is capable of judging others. God will judge His people. We are not to take His judgment or His revenge into our hands, because these belong to God only.

Someone asked, What is the greatest commandment of all? Jesus said it is to love God completely, mind, heart, body, soul and power. Also Jesus commanded us “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Therefore, by using reasoning and logic, we can figure out that really, all the commandments have the same importance as the greatest commandment. Because if we break any one commandment, we break the first commandment to keep God’s commandments. So if we break any commandment it results in breaking the greatest commandment. Therefore all the commandments have the same value, or importance of keeping them. The same as the greatest. None is less than the others. This is why it is important that we keep all God’s commandments.

We can’t just pick and choose which commandments we want to follow. It’s not much different from driving a car. We can’t just pick and choose which driving laws we want to keep, and ignore the rest. For example, we can’t say we will obey the speed limit, but we will not obey the stop signs or traffic lights. We have to obey all the traffic laws. Otherwise, we will be found guilty of breaking the laws.

So to me, in my humble opinion, i feel the most important commandment to me is Judge not. I already do love God completely, but not because He commanded me to. But judging others will lead to us losing our salvation. We will have to be judged instead of forgiven. And it’s an easy trap to fall into. It’s easy to remember to always Love God fully, but it’s a very human thing to judge others in our own minds. So i think Jewel was right when she said “In the end, only kindness matters”. That’s really what Christianity comes down to. Loving each other and being kind to each other. This is what Jesus taught.

Jesus said to love one another, that is the law and the prophets. Therefore, He commanded us to be kind to each other.

The Bible speaks about “fruit” a lot. I thought about that, and the “fruit” that Satan brings forth is “dead flesh”. But the fruit that God brings forth is Living Fruit. Fruits of the Living Spirit.

One thing we are taught is to receive the fruits of the Spirit.

Galatians Chapter 5

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Most of these fruits are self explanatory; love, peace and joy, for example. What is temperance? If we live in a “temperate” climate, that means it doesn’t get real real hot, and neither does it get real real cold. It remains pretty warm and comfortable. So if we learn temperance, then we do not wildly swing between hot and cold either. We tend to remain calm, or temperate. So it is certainly a good teaching to ascribe to. It helps us learn to keep our temper and always remain temperate. And Jesus always taught us to calm down, to have peace. Peace be unto you, Jesus always said. Jesus can calm the raging ocean waves, and he can calm people’s hearts just as easy.

I myself find that temperance is a good thing to practice. It’s better if i don’t write things when i feel strongly emotional about a subject. It’s better to wait until we are calm, and then we will produce better writings. The same could be said about a zealous preacher. Jesus did not go about the country preaching wildly and using wild antics. No, Jesus was calm, and peaceful, and He taught peace and kindness. I’m not saying that’s bad, either. I’m just pointing out that Jesus did not teach in a wild and zealous manner. It would actually be against His teachings of peace and gentleness.

So ranting and raving is not necessarily what i would call “temperance”. And these are some of the things we learn as we learn about being Christians and learning what the Holy Spirit teaches us.

And it’s good to learn these things from God. Because we aspire to something greater than rooting around like animals in the mud.
