Seek Understanding

Earlier i had written about how Jesus teachings upgraded Moses law. The reason that Jesus teachings and Jesus Words take precedence over what Moses wrote is because Jesus is God and therefore, whatever Jesus says takes precedence over what any man said.

1 John Chapter 5

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for
this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself:
he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth
not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and
this life is in his Son.

Not only does this remind us again of our opportunity to have eternal life, it also makes us realize that we can spend our eternity living in Heaven, in Glory, or in hell, in eternal shame. It’s very important. How important is forever? Well, let me just say that it is a lot more important than anything here on Earth. If we realize just how important this issue is, this ” eternal life event” that will affect us “forever”, then we will begin to realize the sheer necessity of getting the Answer right. Without Jesus, we would all be doomed. But thankfully, Jesus showed us the Way. Jesus is the Way. This is the Good News. God gave us the Answer.

Now for the bad news:

Matthew Chapter 7

21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is
in heaven.

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth
unto life, and few there be that find it.

Mark Chapter 12

24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err,
because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

This, i begin to realize, is the real reason behind all the problems that people have with finding God- not knowing Scriptures. And not knowing the power of God, either. This is the real problem people have – they just don’t understand. Fortunately, God can give us understanding. All we have to do is ask. So my thought is that people do not understand Scripture well enough because they do not read Scripture enough, and they do not understand the power of God well enough because they do not spend enough time in meditation and prayer. And because we do not understand, then we do err.

Mark Chapter 12

27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye
therefore do greatly err.

Yes, we do greatly err, in fact. But fortunately, here, Jesus just taught us how to stop erring! And that is, by understanding Scripture and the power of God better. We therefore pray for Understanding. Because it is not a selfish thing to ask for.

Now one of the things that many people don’t seem to understand is the Scripture that tells us that we are the temple of God, our body, and the Spirit of God dwells inside us. Some people think, commonly held misconceptions are things like we shouldn’t get tattoos, or damage or abuse our bodies.

1 Corinthians Chapter 3

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of
God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for
the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Well, this is pretty important to understand. If we get it wrong, God will destroy us for defiling the temple of God. Now i am beginning to understand the part we read about earlier. The Scripture that says that “few will find the way”. And the reason they don’t find the way is because they just don’t understand. Hopefully someone will enlighten them. Someone such as Jesus, or the Holy Spirit ! Thankfully, they have!

Now me, when i am seeking understanding, there is a question i ask periodically that helps me get answers. And that question is “Why?” So again i ask, how can we avoid defiling the temple of God, our body, so that we won’t be destroyed? Is it not to get tattoos? Is it to remain extremely clean? Is it the food we eat? What is it exactly? Well, Jesus told us exactly.

Matthew Chapter 15

10 ¶ And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that
which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Jesus teaches us that what comes out of us is what defiles us. These are the things that defile us, that defile our temple of God – the things that are within us – our thoughts and secrets, the words that come out of us.

16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth
goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from
the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries,
fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen
hands defileth not a man.

So our thoughts and deeds and words and actions are what defile our temple – or we can do the things instead that glorify God in our temple. Because those are the two main reasons for man – to carry out the will of God here on Earth, and to find ways to glorify God. That’s what i believe. Now, we must not defile our temple, otherwise God will not dwell in our temple with us. God, the Holy Spirit will dwell within us.

John Chapter 14

15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because
it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

So we learn that we must not defile our temple so that God will dwell within us. It’s pretty easy to understand. It’s very simple. So why is it that so few will find the way? Again, the root cause that so many won’t find the way is because they do not understand Scripture, nor God’s power. No, they don’t.

Why do i say that? Well, i went over that before, last year, in December of 2014, i believe it was. Some may remember i wrote about how the so-called Christian churches went and put up Nimrod trees right inside their own church! How can Scriptural based churches put up pagan idols within their own temple to God? How can they? They can’t! Because if they do that, they are not Scriptural based churches!

2 Corinthians Chapter 6

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what
fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what
communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he
that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are
the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them,
and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith
the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and
daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

God is not going to “scoot over” and make room for pagan idols inside God’s temple! No! If you defile God’s temple, God will destroy the temple! That is told to us clearly:

1 Corinthians Chapter 3

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of
God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for
the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

So, because many people don’t understand, they put pagan idols inside their temple to Jesus! They think it’s no big deal. It’s just some christmas tree. Or it’s just an image of a rabbit, and some eggs. What harm can putting pagan idols in the church do? Well, if the people understood Scripture, and the power of God, they would know what harm it can do.

And in the same way, in the same way that people put christmas trees in their churches, those same people have “christmas trees in their souls”. The same people practice pagan practices and worship money and material things and put God in second place, or worse. And God already told us, man cannot serve two masters.

Matthew Chapter 6

24 ¶ No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one,
and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Now in these verses, it was said to us as an example, that we cannot serve God and mammon. We cannot serve two masters. Therefore, we can substitute any name we want for mammon, and the Scripture remains True. For example, we cannot serve God and Satan. No, you can’t. Because we would either hate one and love the other. OR ELSE, now this is important – OR ELSE , if he does NOT hate one and love the other, then he will HOLD to the one and DESPISE the other. What does this mean? Obviously he may hate one master and love the other. Or, he may decide that he will try to serve two masters, and he will say that he loves Jesus, but he will also put christmas trees in his church. Therefore, he is HOLDING to the pagan god, by following those pagan traditions, and he is DESPISING Jesus, by refusing to listen to Jesus Words and teachings! He is despising Jesus by doing so, by putting pagan idols in his “temple”! Even so, we cannot serve two masters. If we defile our temple, God will destroy it. You can’t have a temple that serves “two masters”.

And for lack of understanding, people perish. MANY people will NOT make it into Heaven that day. They thought they could squeak by maybe, and just barely make it. They thought it was just some harmless christmas trees and a few harmless pagan idols. For whatever reason, MANY will NOT be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven. Because people did not understand Scripture nor the power of God. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Proverbs Chapter 29

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth
the law, happy is he.

Hosea Chapter 4

6 ¶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou
hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no
priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also
forget thy children.

Matthew Chapter 7

21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is
in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not
prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in
thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from
me, ye that work iniquity.

So, we begin to understand why so few will find the way. We begin to understand why many will be turned away. We begin to understand why. It’s clearly shown to us, and Scripture tells us exactly how to build our house upon the Rock. But many folks will either not understand, or else they will not DO the things they need to do to be saved. But thankfully, Jesus teaches us that no one needs be lost – all can be saved. And all we need is Scripture and Prayer. And Understanding. And Obedience to do the things that we are told.

Otherwise, what good are we?
